Vice Gritty (Part 1)

Description

Released in 2014, the first part of Illien Rosewell’s double album, Vice Gritty, intoxicates with explicit tales of seduction and deviance; the laid-back beats and clever lyricism balance the concept of two separate paths in life and the occasional intertwining trails in between. While future project, Gritty pushes the mind to knowledge and higher consciousness, Vice is a peek into the slightly tainted side. A realm of overall confidence is built upon the melodic instrumentals provided by Logic, as Rosewell depicts the path of an individual walking through the at-times dismal circumstances in society, “If cash rules everything, then what, you pray to?” (Rosewell,“Lew in Hebrew”). Temptation, lust, greed – Vice is riddled with all the enticing distractions that an individual might be attracted to in order to cope through life. Concealing the poisons as welcomed diversions, the conceptual and highly-entertaining word play mixed with his smooth, effortless cadence gives this project an exceptionally relatable vibe.-Sarah Lottinville
